Back up & running! (Fingers Crossed!) / CNW covers added

Well, my computer is back up and running again! Hopefully it stays running for awhile! I finally got my new backup software to work so I was able to restore my computer (no thanks to tech support!).

I just finished adding the Chicago & North Western match covers that I was in the process of working on when my computer died last time. So stop on by and see them at my website Houghton's Railcovers.

Computer crapped out again!

Just as a follow up................. My computer crapped out again and this time Windows is messed up big time. Tried to do a restore with the new backup software I bought a couple of months ago (Rebit5) and the backup will only restore my D drive and not my C drive. I have tech support working on it but no luck so far! Nothing like thinking you're covered and then finding out that backup software doesn't work!

So for now the additions that I was working on for my web site are on hold. I really hope I don't have to start from scratch. If I do I will lose a lot of my programs. I am somewhat lucky in that all of my scanned matchcovers images and the files for the web site are located on an external usb drive.

Computer problems and Milwaukee Road Covers

Well, I'm back! After about a week and half with my computer down I finally figured out what was wrong with it. It seems that when I replaced one of my DVD burners with a blu-ray drive I knocked off a cable causing the computer to be unable to find my hard drive. At first I thought maybe my hard drive died but upon futher testing I found it to be ok. I really didn't want to do a complete restore even though I had just installed a new backup program a few weeks ago called rebit5 that seems to work pretty good.

Now that I'm back up and running I was able to finnish scanning the Milwaukee Road covers and uploading them to my web site. The hardest thing was to make the Milwaukee Road background for the pages.

I hope you enjoy the Milwaukee Road Covers!

Bangor & Aroostook & Union Pacific Covers

I just recently re-did the Bangor & Aroostook match cover page. Below is a moldy oldie cover from the BAR advertising "The Aroostook Flyer" passenger train.

This cover was made by The Diamond Match Co., N.Y.C.

I also recently added 24 Union Pacific "Agent" covers to my web site at http://home.comcast.net/~railcovers/. Most of the 82 U.P. Agent covers I have were made by The Universal Match Corporation in St. Louis, but this particular one was made by the The Diamond Match Co., N.Y.C.

Houghton's Railcovers

Hello and welcome to my railroad match cover blog. This blogging stuff is new to me so this isn't going to be all that fancy.
I've been collecting railroad match covers and matchbooks for several years, I started collecting railroad match covers almost by accident. I came across a few covers and ended up saving them. I noticed that they had very nice vintage art work on them, something that you just don't see these days. Well, I started looking around on the web trying to find more images of them but came up pretty much empty handed as there was almost nothing on railroad match covers out there.
I slowly built up my collection by making a lot of purchases on eBay. This was and still is an expensive way of building a collection especially if you get into a bidding war, and I have! It's very easy to get carried away and end up spending a $100 on a cover. With still almost nothing on the web showing these match covers and their beautiful vintage artwork I decided to create a website just for railroad match covers and match books. My website can be viewed at Houghton's Railcovers , this website is still under constant construction as time permits. I probably have somewhere between 1500 and 2000 covers and I still have a lot that I haven't added to my site.

I plan on using this blog to show the current additions to my website and for anyone that would like to comment on the covers. If anyone has any railroad covers that I don't have and would like to part with them please contact me at railimages@comcast.net. If you have a unique cover that you don't want to part with and you have the means to do a good scan of it I can add it to my web site along with your credit.

I hope you enjoy this blog and that you visit my website at Houghton's Railcovers.

Thanks,

Ken
